In his first interview since leaving hospital after having surgery on his hand, Joe told Susanna Reid and Ben Shephard his ‘ambition is to raise £500,000 in the next few weeks.’

The fitness pro explained how he asked his wife to step in and assist him with lessons moving forward, after he ended up in hospital with a broken bone in his hand.

He said: ‘I broke a little bone in my hand and I had two wires put in the hand. I’ve been doing P.E. With Joe for six weeks with no problems, but on Friday I had a really bad flare up.

‘It was infected, I spent the weekend in hospital on morphine and codeine.

I texted Rosie and said, «Rosie, I need your help, I don’t think I can do this on Monday,»‘ explained the star.

He continued: ‘Here she is, in trouble and in strife, in fitness and in health, being my teaching assistant!’

Talking about stepping up, Rosie said: ‘I want to make it clear I’m not taking his place, I’m demonstrating exercises.

He’s going to be taking the class and I’m just doing whatever he tells me to do.’

Susanna asked if they normally work out together and Rosie said: ‘Yeah we do. I had a baby four months ago, I had a bit of a break but now I’ve got back into it.

So, I’ll either do Joe’s videos or sometimes we’ll do a workout together.’

Clarifying: Talking about her role, Rosie said: 'I want to make it clear I'm not taking his place, I'm demonstrating exercises. He's going to be taking the class!'

Joe added: ‘I’m really proud of her, she’s really out of her comfort zone.

She’s not done anything like this before, so to do a live workout to probably millions of people.’

Turning to his wife, he added: ‘I’m so proud and I love you so much for it, darling, so thank you so much.’

Ben then praised Joe for being open about experiencing low moments during lockdown, to which Joe admitted: ‘I’m human. I have days where I wake up and for no reason I feel like there’s a tower over me, I feel a bit flat, my mood’s a bit low.

‘But when I do feel like that, I always come to exercise.

It’s the first thing I do. I do a little bit of fitness, go for a walk or go for a bike ride and it lifts my mood.

‘And that’s what I’ve always been on a mission to do — to help people see the benefits of exercise from a mental health perspective, and then the physical transformation follows.’

On whether their daughter Indie will be joining the workout, Rosie said: ‘We thought about that but we don’t think it’s a very good idea because there’s so many wires and computer things around.

‘So we’ve planned it well and kept her up late, so we’re hoping she’s going to sleep.’
