There is difference between them. Plastic films are not a single product; rather they are a group of products, which are made similar due to their application and shape. They have a right to use this name only for a specific range of products. This range is established by the generation of the product. The PET or in other words Polyethylene Terephthalate should have made all the products. This is just a single compound. There are a number of similar other compounds which possess similar qualities like the Mylar.
Together they constitute the plastic film group.
There are a number of types of Mylar. These sheets are many and each of them is used in different applications. Their types are:

Then there is another fact, which needs to be considered before going for any particular product.
It is not that all of the products from Mylar are of same finish or type. They are selective and they come in selective range only.
