Why A Committee?

it sounds all formal and stuff…

Because the Soft-Cogs have grown in popularity and host bigger activities to achieve better results, we could not grow without formalising an association. A committee is required to satisfy our legal requirements, it’s really not that daunting. Plus, we gotta get insurance to cover your antics!

President & Public Officer

Kim Nguyen

Founded Soft Cogs in 2006 and passionate about promoting responsible riding and helping out the community. He’s been the president of SCI since the start. Some say that his legendary skills and seemingly bottomless energy has kept him in the role. Others say they couldn’t be arsed doing the role.

Vice President

Guy Gausden

Gausdo is a recent member of Soft Cogs Inc but brings much energy to the behind-the-scenes work in what we do. He has been active in our social events and fundraisers. To showcase his commitment, he rode his first gong ride with no training and not riding a road bike before.

Despite all those hallmarks of a good committee member, we regret to advise he is also an eBike rider. Please be respectful.

Treasurer

Angela Nguyen

Since 2009, Ange has been swept off her feet by two wheels and one man, and since then has never looked back. She has been instrumental in organising some of the Cogs’ larger events, namely the 2012 Soft Cogs Ball.

Secretary & Online Orders

Scott Simpson

Scott has been integral in organising the social rides for Soft Cogs Inc. He’s a keen road/gravel/mtb rider and doesn’t mind a flog on the indoor trainer too!

Social Media

Steph Rienstra

Steph is a Soft Cogs Inc OG. Involved now for well over a decade, Steph knows the ins (and outs) of how we operate. She has relentless energy in volunteering and you’ll see her at many of our rides and our events.

Committee Member

Mick Deaves

We don’t know how Ewok got his nickname. But his short, tubby and furry physical features personify his character of frivolity, cuddliness and cheek-squeezing cuteness.

Ewok has put body and soul on the line for the cogs, literally, after breaking 8 ribs, 5 vertebrae, a finger and a collapsed lung during one of our MTB rides.

Committee Member - Events Fundraising

Samantha Morgan

Sammi’s selfless passion to help others has made her an invaluable member of the committee. Our Soft Cogs events have had more horsepower since her involvement in 2015.

She’s even sacrificed her own house for post-event review meetings (the night of the events) – where she even slept on the trampoline outside to allow revelers to debrief in peace.

Committee Member - Social rides

Tony Chalker

Chalky is a fundraising powerhouse. He is involved in a couple of volunteer organisations in the Singleton community. We don’t know where he gets his energy from. Oh wait, yes we do, he saves energy by modifying his eBike to get extra miles out of it!

Committee Member - Social Rides

Shane Kowald

Kowalski is co-founder of the Soft Cogs Cootwalski Award – an award to recognise the achievements of those who like to fly through the air then brush their teeth on the dirt landing. Kowalski enjoys to break things, his promises, his bikes and his body. Looking after the social rides, we’re all in good hands!

Committee Member - Sponsorships

John Martin

John is a fresh member of Soft Cogs Inc and looks after sponsorships for the group. His love for riding MTB is second only to his love of giving unwelcomed, and unsolicited riding advice. This makes John perfect for the Groms MTB academy, as the kids thinks he actually knows what he’s on about.

Committee Member

Dave Morgan

Margo’s got an eye on the prize, and an eye on something else. Like an ingrown hair, Margo just keeps coming back – annoying the absolute p!ss out of everyone. Dave doesn’t mind a beer, mountain/road biking and pizza (in that order), so it wasn’t long before he was nominated to be on the committee.

Margo’s social spirit brings a unique perspective on what Soft Cogs Inc is all about.

Committee Member - Social Road rides

Dave Sanders

He’s got a white beard, white hair and his surname provides the trifecta for the “Colonel” badge. We’re lucky to have the Colonel on the team, as not only is he great at fried chicken, he’s also a retired doctor which has come in handy on many, many occasions.
